Reagan Gomez Seeks To Create Opportunities For People Of Color w/ New Dramatic Web Series | Shadow and Act

The web is the new TV, as we’ve said many times on S&A. And content creators from under-represented groups are taking full advantage, which is a good thing! If you’re not seeing yourself on screen (Broadcast TV and at the movie theater), the burden is on you to create those images of yourself that you want to see, especially now that the tools of creation and distribution have become much more accessible.

Watch New Web Series That Profiles Entrepreneurial artists – ‘The Artrepreneurs’ | Shadow and Act

A new web series that profiles entrepreneurial artists, aptly titled, The Artrepreneurs.

It comes from writer & director Vishnu J. Seesahai, whose name you might recall; he wrote and directed a feature film titled Candid (described as “The 1-Man-Movie,” because it was written, directed, shot, acted, and edited all by one man), which we highlighted last fall, when it premiered at the Urbanworld Film Festival.

 L.A. Rebellion movement

There are two filmmakers named Larry Clark, and this is NOT about the Larry Clark whose ephebophiliac imagination has given us films like Kids, Bully, and Wassup Rockers! Just so we’re clear, this Larry Clark is Black, a Cleveland native who went to UCLA along with Charles Burnett, Julie Dash, Haile Gerima and Billy Woodberry and was a key member of the L.A. Rebellion movement.

Illustrated Version Of ’12 Years A Slave’ Issued To Honor 160th Anniversary Of Northup’s Freedom | Shadow and Act

Illustrated Version Of ’12 Years A Slave’ Issued To Honor 160th Anniversary Of Northup’s Freedom | Shadow and Act.

I’m sure everyone knows that the upcoming Steve McQueen film, Twelve Years A Slave, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, is based on a book of the same name, co-written by Solomon Northup, detailing his 12 years in captivity.

I don’t think I’m spoiling the story by saying that Northup was eventually a free man again, which officially happened on January 41853 – 160 years ago, almost exactly. Today is the 12th of January, so we missed this by 8 days. But close enough.
